President of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries & Mines: for the first time in four decades, global gross production and global trade have been respectively reduced by 11 and 1.3 percents.
Today, in DECO 2009, The 2nd International Conference on World Trade in Furniture, Decoration and Interior Design, Mohammad Nahavandian said: "decline of prices in many markets caused by reduced demands has created various problems for producers and exporters, and furniture industry is no exception."
He also emphasized that: "Global economic crisis must be viewed as a reality and utilized as an opportunity."
Nahavandian believes that the global economic crisis to be an opportunity for the newcomers in furniture industry and small producers: "in furniture industry those with enough know-how and utilize experts and professionals of furniture industry. In these circumstances that everyone is avoiding risks, it's a good opportunity for small producers to embrace this risk and achieve a better commercial position."
The president of Iran's chamber of commerce stated that not so long ago Iran was a major exporter of furniture to middle eastern countries and "we know the rules we can protect furniture industry and any other industry from mass producers."
He also added that quality consideration by the producers is another key to success in exportation market and surviving local markets and stated: "unfortunately some local producers have harmed Iranian brands and goods in order to gain huge amounts of early profits."
The president of Iran's Chamber of Commerce indicated that the government support of consumers to be very effective and urged the government to attend to this issue.
He considered brand to be important in furniture industry: "we must not ignore the profits of brand making because it leads to reduce research, development and advertising costs."
Nahavanidan expressed that advertising requires brand making and said: "Using Persian carpet brand along with advertising Persian furniture is an approach to introduce Iran's furniture to the world, and a craft integrated with art must consider genuineness and innovation."
He believes that considering consumers' preferences, cost reduction and stimulating demands in Iran's markets are other approaches to aid the furniture industry.
The president of the chamber of commerce finished his statements with considering adjustments in expert labor force in the current economical crisis will harm the furniture and other industries: "economical problems have reduced the cost of hiring professionals, creating a great opportunity to do so."
